Shimanski has been in farming all his life. The first Shimanski's settled in Silver Lake in the mid-1800s. The farm was dairy, hogs and poultry as he grew up. Now, he raises crops and beef cattle, and manages his apple orchard. The orchard has about 1200 trees of 18 different varieties of apples; the apples are marketed through metro area farmers' markets.
Shimanski has been involved in the Church of the Holy Family in Silver Lake, the Knights of Columbus and the Minnesota Apple Growers Association and the Minnesota Fruit and Vegetable Growers associations. He also has convened the GOP caucuses in his area for many years. He sought and earned the GOP endorsement for Mn House District 18A in 2006 and won the election in November of 2006 and again in 2008
In St. Paul, Shimanski works for growth in agriculture and our rural economy, as a driving economic force, encouraging more research at the University of Minnesota and the Department of Agriculture, and more value added farm commodities. Improving transportation, without increasing taxes, and more equitably funding schools are also priorities, along with making sure the needs of all of Minnesota's veterans are met.
Shimanski enjoys spending time with his grandchildren and looks forward to listening to both sides on the issues at the Capital. Please arrange a visit with Ron at the State Capitol whenever you are in St. Paul. The Capitol is a great treasure that all Minnesotans should see to appreciate it's beauty and architecture. |
