SHIMANSKI AWARDED FOR VOTING RECORD
ST. PAUL - State Rep. Ron Shimanski, R-Silver Lake, was one of just six Minnesota legislators to recently earn top honors for voting in support of “traditional American principles.”
The non-profit, non-partisan Minnesota Legislative Evaluation Assembly critiqued legislators for their voting records on 20 key issues in 2009. Shimanski’s score of 94 was second-highest among all 201 Minnesota House and Senate members. The legislation scored by the LEA ranged from tax and bonding proposals to energy policy, election law changes and medical regulations.
Shimanski voted in favor of limiting government growth and careful state spending in the face of a historic budget deficit. Shimanski also voted to protect voter integrity while opposing nanny-state regulations and expanded bureaucracy.
“It is a matter of acknowledging the economic realities of today,” Shimanski said. “The vast majority of us are getting by with a less these days and government should make sacrifices as well. We need to stop expanding government to just make special interests happy and focus on creating new jobs that will increase the tax base.”
This is the third consecutive year Shimanski has earned recognition from the LEA, which bases its evaluation on the “traditional American principles of constitutionalism, limited government, free enterprise, legal and moral order with justice and individual liberty and dignity.”
Eight House members received honorable mention to the list for 14 total award winners, down from 2008 when 29 awards were issued.
-30- Rep. Shimanski is serving his second term in the Minnesota House. He can be reached at the Capitol by calling 651-296-1534. He is also available by email at rep.ron.shimanski@house.mn. His office is located at 227 State Office Building, 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55155.
SHIMANSKI RECEIVES SMALL-BUSINESS GROUP AWARD 10/1/2008
ST. PAUL, Minn. - State Rep. Ron Shimanski, R-Silver Lake, has earned the "Guardian of Small Business Award."
Shimanski was awarded by the National Federation of Independent Businesses - Minnesota's largest small-business group - after achieving a 100-percent voting rating according to the federation's criteria.
"Rep. Shimanski is a strong supporter of small business at the Capitol," said Mike Hickey, state director for NFIB/MN.
A press release from the NFIB stated "Rep. Shimanski understands the vital role small businesses play in our state's economy and realizes how many jobs are created by small businesses each year. He has made many votes in support of small business, including voting against a new 9-percent top income-tax hike in the minimum wage that would eliminate jobs, especially for younger workers. Small business has a real friend in Rep. Shimanski and we are happy to announce that he has earned the "Guardian of Small Business Award." |
